Chris Payn is a musician, songwriter, and producer from the south of the UK, known for his high-energy live shows, powerful vocals, and a sound that blends modern rock and pop with classic influences. Inspired by artists like Prince, David Bowie, Meat Loaf, and Queen, Chris has developed a bold, melodic style that has helped him build a growing and loyal audience.

Chris’s connection to music began early. Raised in a musical household, he learned piano from the age of three while sitting on his father’s lap — a popular piano entertainer known for his comedic performances and ability to play anything the audience requested. At eight years old, Chris staged his first live show at Burley Village Hall, performing a full set of Meat Loaf songs under the name “Malt Loaf.”

At just 12 years old, Chris reached a major milestone, performing a solo vocal with a full band at The Royal Albert Hall, marking his arrival as a young performer with remarkable potential.

He began learning guitar at age 10, guided by his guitar teacher John Wines (now known as the “Old Grey Guitarist” ( America’s Got Talent). Chris performed regularly with his dad and soon formed several bands, including Colt 45, which gained local attention and secured a production deal when he was 15.

In 2017, he formed Hightown Parade, an alternative rock band that received national radio play on Planet Rock, Kerrang!, Scuzz, and BBC Introducing. The band’s success highlighted Chris’s strengths as a vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Chris began developing his solo sound, writing and producing from his home studio. This period allowed him to explore a wide mix of influences — from Prince’s theatrics to Bowie’s creativity and the raw edge of Nine Inch Nails — helping him evolve into the solo artist he is today.

Now performing under his own name, Chris continues to release original music and has built a strong live reputation. His songwriting is honest and expressive, and his performances are full of energy, passion, and presence.

With growing recognition across the UK and internationally, Chris Payn is rapidly becoming known as a standout voice in modern rock and pop — an artist whose journey is only just beginning.
